Johnny Boy!!

I never thought there would be a time in my son John's life where he would be interested in a sport- I certainly never thought he would play a sport in High School! Well he surprised me by trying out for the Galt High Golf Team this spring, made the team, and even made the top "6" on his team on several occasions earning him the rights to play in matches and tournaments. It was fun seeing him get so involved in a sport and he really loves it!

Sadly yesterday was the last day of golf for the season, but he has already made the commitment to play next year and he will be practicing and taking private lessons in the mean time!

John was also nominated by both of his engineering teachers to be President of the Galt High Robotics Team, "G-Tech". He was nervous because the others running against him were all upperclassmen, but he prevailed and he won the election! He was taken by surprise and looks forward to leading the Robotics Team to State Championship next year! Here is the picture he sent me to let me know he won!

Super proud of my Johnny Boy- he has amazed me beyond words his first year in High School- I'm excited to see what else he does in the next 3 years!!

Spring Break in a Nutshell

This past week was spring break for my kids, and even though I had to work four days out of the five (and got today off as well, YAHOO!) I recently was able to switch my hours to half days so I got to spend a little bit of the break with the kids. It was a really fun week and of course went by way too fast!! Here is just a few snapshots of how we spent it!!

We started spring break with the celebration of my niece Abi turning 8!! I love how every single one of my nieces and nephews are different in every way, and she is so spunky and unique. She is a country girl in every sense of the word and I love her with all my heart. It was a fun day and a great way to kick off the break with family and friends!

A couple of days in to the break my sisters, mommy #2, and I took all the kids to see Rio 2. I for one love it when we can get all the cousins together to do stuff like this. They are all the best of friends despite the ages differences, and here they are ranging from almost 3 to almost 15! Love these kids!!!

On Thursday we drove up to Old Sacramento to meet some friends for dinner and went to the Capital, I am sad to say that I had never been there before. This was a first for me, and I decided we will be doing a tour this summer. I love seeing buildings like this, despite my personal political feelings whatever they may be, seeing these buildings make me proud to be an American.

Thursday night we met a bunch of kids from Claire's Australia delegation trip last summer in Old Sacramento for dinner all because of this dude! His name is Dave and he was their Delegation Manager while they were in Australia, basically he was their tour guide for the entire 14 days. All the kids became pretty attached to him, and he has been in the States doing some visiting and he made a special trip up to Sacramento to stop in and see these kids. Claire was very excited to introduce him to us.

Friday night we were able to attend the "HellaCappella" concert up at UC Davis, we went last year AND LOVED it. If you have seen the movie Pitch Perfect, then you know what this stuff is all about- LOL. UC Davis has an all girl Acapella group called "The Spokes" and they hold this concert every year and invite other Acapella groups from other Universities, and it is AMAZING. Plus Friday night would have been David's 25th birthday, and we loved celebrating him like this. We took my mom and pop and we had an amazing time. Have I said that word enough--- AMAZING... HA

Of course ending the break with Easter Sunday is just the greatest way to end it. We had an amazing Easter, loved our church service.. Pastor Phil you ROCKED the message!! Mom, the kids, and I all went and saw "Heaven is For Real", loved the book, movie was good, made me excited to get to Heaven and see my David. Came home, rested a bit, and then had an amazing meal prepared by my mom and then slept soundly.

I am so thankful that I have a boss that understood my deep desire and yearning to not only be good at what I do in the classroom but also be good at what I do at home, and she creatively worked that out for me. Without her I wouldn't have been able to enjoy this past week with my family and kids like I did. It was a very fun week and I think we can all say we are ready for the downhill slide of the school year! Summer fun is just around the corner! YAY!!

Happy Easter

So here we are over a year later since I started this blog as a single mom, I have debated in the last week or so to go back to blogging on my Kennedy Family blog site, and have decided not to. This is me now, single mom, take it or leave it! I will be blogging more since I have decided to leave the Facebook world (going on over a month now and haven't missed it one bit!)

In the next few days I will do an official update on what all has been going on in our lives since I last blogged back in October, but for now let's just focus on the fact that it is EASTER! I love Easter, I love that it reminds us not just of the fact that Our Savior died for us, but that he ROSE just as HE said HE would. Just another reminder that God always keeps his promises. In that fact I find hope in each new day.

A year ago I would never have thought this is where I would have been today. Easter last year I was curled up in a ball on my bed, tears streaming down my face, in wretched despair that once again I was going through another year of holiday firsts without a loved one. I couldn't imagine doing that again, my stomach hurt at the thought of it, I was numb with pain, and I honestly was blinded with sadness and fear. But boy am I proud of how far I have come in that year, and I couldn't have done it without that one who promises me so much, that one who died for me so long ago. He has never let me down, starting from that first day on the cross.

I look at that sweet picture above, and I can't begin to tell you how blessed I feel. Some days are so hard it feels like I can't breathe. Some days the anger and the sadness overwhelm me to the point of no return, although those days are fewer and fewer now, they still come. But, that picture, those kids, and the joy they bring me each day, the fighting, the bickering, the oversleeping, the running around, and everything in between, that is what makes it all worth it. One day I will look at that picture and so many more like that one, and I will be glad that I had to walk this walk, I will be proud that The Lord took me on this journey, because I have learned so much from it.

Happy Easter to all of my family, friends, loved ones, and even those out there that I may not know. Spend the rest of today with those that you love doing something that you love, knowing that The Lord's promises are true and filled with glory.
